Hertl Concerto for Double Bass, (Orchestral tuning)

Writer's picture: Ashley FramptonAshley Frampton

Hertl's Double bass concerto written in 1957 presented here for bass and piano in orchestral tuning.

This concerto has sadly been out of print for a while, I have managed to get hold of a copy and transposed it for Bass & Piano (orchestral tuning)

As David Heyes eloquently says;

Hertl's Concerto, which Pošta had premiered in 1958, a year after it was written. The three movement work is similar in style and construction to Hertl's Sonata for double bass and piano, beautifully written for the instrument, and in a modern but accessible style.
